The last day. A steady climb past the airport to Monte do Gozo, where the cathedral towers come into sight for the first time, then a 5 km descent into the city and through the old streets to the Basilica. [Along the way] - Santo Antón and O Amenal — where the climb towards Santiago begins - A Lavacolla — pilgrims once washed here before entering the city; the name says as much - Monte do Gozo (380 m) — first sight of the cathedral; the first to the top was named king of the pilgrimage - San Lázaro and Os Concheiros — the old quarter of the scallop-shell guilds [Stage details] Start: Arca (O Pino) · End: Santiago de Compostela 20.2 km · about 5 h 05 min · difficulty medium [Good to know] - The final approach runs down Rúa de San Pedro to the Porta do Camiño, then Casas Reais, Praza de Cervantes and Acibechería to the Basilica. - In Holy Years the alternative entrance is the Porta Santa on Praza da Quintana.
