Camino de Invierno Stage 1

Our route begins in a landscape with spectacular shapes and colours: As Médulas, with its remains of a large Roman gold exploitation, today declared to be a World Heritage Site. We are in the region of El Bierzo (León), bordering with Galicia by the province of Ourense. We continue along the Camino Real to Puente de Domingo Flórez, still in the province of León. The gentle ascent to the top of Pedrices provides us with a magnificent panorama of the surroundings of Las Médulas, which we have left behind. The arrival in this last town of Leon culminates with a steep downhill stretch, with attractive landscapes and pleasant solitude. We enter the centre by the Calle Real and make for the central square. On ddeparture by the Puente de Domingo Flórez we cross the River Sil in the direction of A Quereño. We cross this town and continue towards Galicia on the right bank of the River Sil, a stretch which will take us by Pumares, now in the Ouresnse municipality of Carballeda de Valdeorras, Sobradelo.
