Obersee & Röthbachfall

4.2 km181 m

Off the boat at Salet, at the far end of the Königssee, and along the Obersee to the Fischunkelalm — a lake so still it doubles the wall of rock behind it. Beyond the alm the path carries on to the foot of the Röthbachfall, which drops 470 m and is the highest waterfall in Germany. Almost flat, and the only way in is the boat. [Route details] Start: Salet boat landing · End: Röthbachfall viewpoint Via: Obersee shore · Fischunkelalm 4.24 km one way · 602 m to 736 m · climb 187 m [Good to know] - Salet is reachable only by the Königssee boat, and the last sailing sets the turnaround time. The way back is this same line. - The shore path to the Fischunkelalm is narrow and dug into the slope in places. - The Röthbachfall node in OpenStreetMap sits at the lip of the fall, 1,228 m up. Routing to it climbs the cliff; this line ends where the walking path does, below the fall. - Reconstructed from the OpenStreetMap path network. Elevation is sampled from a terrain model.
