Angels Landing
A fin of sandstone standing out into Zion Canyon, and the most exposed maintained trail in the American park system. The path climbs from the canyon floor through Refrigerator Canyon and up Walter's Wiggles — twenty-one switchbacks poured into the rock in 1926 — to Scout Lookout, then follows the spine itself with chains bolted along the drop. [Route details] Start: The Grotto shuttle stop · End: Angels Landing summit 3.5 km one way · climbing about 450 m [Good to know] - A permit is required for the chain section beyond Scout Lookout, issued by lottery. - Zion Canyon is served by shuttle for most of the year; there is no parking at The Grotto. - The terrain model reads the summit about 150 m low. The fin is narrower than the model's grid, so the profile here understates both the top and the climb. - Elevation is sampled from a terrain model, not recorded on the ground.
