[Route details] Start: Valloire (1,402 m) · End: Col du Galibier 18.16 km one way · climb 1,281 m · high point 2,623 m [Along the way] - Plan Lachat at 8 km, where the gradient changes for good - The last 8 km average about 8% [Good to know] - Open roughly June to October. A tunnel just below the summit lets cars skip the last 100 m of climb; the road over the top is the one to take. - The measured high point is 2,623 m against the 2,642 m on the col marker — the road passes a little below the saddle itself. - The southern side climbs from Col du Lautaret and is much shorter. - No cycle route relation covers this climb, so it is routed through the road network with motorways and the roads that ban bicycles left out. - Elevation is sampled from a terrain model, not recorded on the ground.
