The Pinnacles
Two and a half kilometres, a thousand metres up: the steepest sustained climb on this board. It leads to a viewpoint on the flank of Gunung Api looking across at the Pinnacles — fifty-metre limestone blades that rainwater has cut out of the mountain over millions of years. [Route details] Start: Camp 5 · End: the Pinnacles viewpoint 2.37 km one way · 137 m to 1,138 m · climb 1,001 m [Good to know] - An out-and-back: this line is one way, so the walk is 4.7 km all told, and most of a day. - The upper section is ladders, ropes and sharp limestone; the park turns back anyone who has not reached the halfway marker by a set time. - Getting to Camp 5 is a separate trip in itself — a boat up the Melinau and about 9 km of walking from Kuala Berar, which is why this is normally three days and two nights. - The line passes the Mini Pinnacles viewpoint on the way up. - Elevation is sampled from a terrain model, not recorded on the ground.
