Étretat Cliff Loop

The chalk cliffs at Étretat, walked as a figure of eight from the beach — south over the Falaise d'Aval to the Porte d'Aval arch, the Aiguille standing offshore and the Manneporte beyond it, then back through the town and north to the Porte d'Amont under the seamen's chapel. Monet painted these arches more than twenty times. [Route details] Start and finish: Étretat seafront 4.2 km · 4 m to 68 m About 2 hours [Along the way] - La Manneporte 1.1 km · Porte d'Aval and the Aiguille 1.8 km - Chapelle Notre-Dame de la Garde 3.0 km · Porte d'Amont 3.3 km [Good to know] - The clifftop is grass to the edge with no fence, and the chalk undercuts. - Low tide opens the walk under the Porte d'Aval to the Manneporte; it is cut off otherwise. - No relation describes this loop — the GR 21 passes through on its way from Le Tréport to Montivilliers — so it is the shortest walk the mapped paths give between the named points. All of it is footway. - Elevation is sampled from a terrain model, not recorded on the ground.
