The King's Trail, running the length of Swedish Lapland from Abisko in the far north to Hemavan, mostly above the treeline and through the mountain reserves along the Norwegian border. Laid out by the Swedish Tourist Association from the 1900s and still built around its huts, spaced roughly a day apart, with rowing boats left at the lake crossings for walkers to take themselves. [Route details] Start: Abisko Turiststation · End: Hemavan 473.4 km · north to south 303 m at Kvikkjokk to 1,133 m at the Tjäktja pass (51 km) Crosses the Arctic Circle at 268 km [Stage towns] Singi 71 km · Saltoluokta 139 km · Kvikkjokk 210 km · Jäkkvik 302 km · Ammarnäs 393 km [Good to know] - 27 hut-to-hut stages, of which 412 km is trail, 20 km is boat crossings and 41 km is road. - The trail is usually quoted as 440 km. That is this line minus the 32 km between Vakkotavare and Saltoluokta, which is road and a lake crossing rather than a walked stage — it is kept here so the track stays continuous. - The source also maps an out-and-back to Kebnekaise and Nikkaluokta. That side trip is not part of the through-line and is not included. - Elevation is sampled from a terrain model.
