The Eifelsteig crosses the Eifel for 313 km from Aachen-Kornelimünster to Trier, under the motto "where rock and water meet". Stage 9 of 15 runs from Hillesheim to Gerolstein. Eifel Tourismus gives the whole trail as 313 km; the assembled line comes to 315.5 km. - The stage ends are the official ones, found on the line by their town centres; where a centre sits a few hundred metres off the trail the cut lands early or late. This stage reads 20.62 km against the official 22.4 km, and the neighbouring stage takes up the difference. - Elevation is sampled from a terrain model at 300 m spacing, not recorded on the ground. On ground this gentle a denser sample inflates the climb — the whole trail reads 7,962 m here against the operator's 7,746 m, but 17,464 m if every track point is used.
