Joffre Lakes Trail
Three lakes on one short climb, each a stronger turquoise than the last — rock flour ground by the Matier Glacier above and held in suspension in the water. The lower lake is a few minutes from the car park; the upper one is worth the climb. [Route details] Start: Joffre Lakes trailhead, Highway 99 4.3 km one way · 1,227 m to 1,600 m · climb 394 m [Along the way] - Lower Joffre Lake, almost at the trailhead - Middle Joffre Lake at about 3 km - Upper Joffre Lake, with the glacier behind it, and the moraine beyond [Good to know] - A free day-use pass is required in summer, booked ahead through BC Parks. - The park closes for part of each year for Líl̓wat and N'Quatqua cultural use. - An out-and-back: this line is one way, so the walk is 8.7 km all told. - Elevation is sampled from a terrain model, not recorded on the ground.
